How is Gastric Sleeve Surgery Performed?
One of the questions that has been frequently asked lately is... How is Gastric Sleeve Surgery Performed? This is the question. In this article, we will review the details regarding gastric reduction surgery.
Gastric sleeve surgery is performed laparoscopically. It is commonly known as closed stomach surgery. Unlike open stomach surgeries, large incisions of 10 to 15 cm are not made. With this method, a few small incisions of 0.5 cm are made, and a camera and surgical instruments are inserted into the abdominal area through these openings. During the operation, the patient's abdominal area is monitored through the camera. Simultaneously, the stomach is reduced in size. This method makes the surgery safer and reduces postoperative pain and discomfort. Furthermore, the healing time of the incisions is faster compared to larger incisions.

How to Prepare for Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Blood-thinning medications should not be taken for at least one week before the surgery. Aspirin and similar medications should be discontinued. Additionally, you must follow the dietary plan prescribed by your doctor 48 hours prior to the procedure.
Postoperative Physical Behaviors
Weight loss continues for 18 months after the operation. This can vary depending on the individual's diet and body type. Heavy exertion should be avoided during the first two years. Completely avoiding physical activity is not the right approach. You can follow various walking and activity recommendations determined by your doctor after the operation. If your job does not involve heavy lifting, you can start working in approximately 2 to 4 weeks.
Post-Surgery Discharge
Medications are prescribed according to the patient's condition. A nutritional plan is created based on a diet program. After discharge, the patient should consult their doctor if they experience persistent hiccups, vomiting, fever of 38°C or higher, swelling, or fluid discharge from the incision site on their abdomen.
