Nutrition After Gastric Reduction Surgery

There are three main stages after surgery:
Phase 1 (liquid diet)
Gastric reduction surgery The patient is fed liquid foods for the first two weeks afterward. Protein intake is important to prevent muscle loss. Therefore, protein supplementation should be started early.
Foods that can be consumed during the first two weeks;
- At least 1.5-2 liters of water per day.,
- Carbonated, non-alcoholic, sugar-free drinks,
- Occasionally, diluted apple or grape juice can be consumed,
- Broth (you can add 1-2 drops of lemon juice)
- Chicken broth (you can add 1-2 drops of lemon juice)

Phase 2 (Soft and watery diet)

Foods that can be consumed in addition to the first two weeks;
- Liquids and purees should not be consumed together; a break of at least 30 minutes should be taken between them.

Stage 3 (Transition to solid foods)

- Fruit,
- Meat and chicken dishes with vegetables (avoid vegetables that cause gas)
- Meatballs, fish, and chicken dishes can be preferred, using low-fat cooking methods.

- Carbonated and alcoholic beverages,
- All sugary drinks,
- Full-fat milk, buttermilk, kefir,
- Caffeinated beverages,
- Carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, rice, and bulgur,
- Fried foods,
- Dried legumes,
- Nuts,
- Coffee
